When I walked into Coffee Tales, located in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter, the first thing I noticed was that, despite the long list of hot drinks on their large blackboard menu, espresso – whether single or double – wasn’t even an option.
That felt like quite a red flag waving at me. Nevertheless, when I ordered one, they prepared it without hesitation. And the coffee machine was a Victoria Arduino. Both were good signs, but I was preparing myself for the worst anyway, as the red flag was just too big to ignore.
To my surprise, the coffee was not bad. It wasn’t particularly strong and had a slight hint of acidity, but that didn’t disrupt the flavour. It was enjoyable overall. I would drink it again.
The tale had a fairly happy ending, after all.
