EDWARDIAN TEA ROOMS, Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery, Chamberlain Square

Besides constantly offering interesting exhibits and spreading knowledge and culture, the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery also features a lovely, spacious tea room for brunches, lunches, dinners, or—most importantly—coffee breaks.

Their machine is a La Cimbali, and the coffee is better than you might expect from a place where coffee is not the main attraction. The espresso is served in slightly generous quantities, which lowers its intensity a bit, but aside from that, the flavor is spot on and not acidic. Not the strongest, but definitely worth a sip—whether you’re there to enjoy the museum itself or you just want to pop in (no entrance fee!) because you’re in the area and fancy coffee and cake in a charming Edwardian-style tea room.
