Once, while about to walk into the Great Western Arcade where Morridge is located, I noticed a blackboard right outside their store window boasting a “Best coffee in Brum” claim.
Again: “Man, that is flagrant false advertising”.
That’s as far as removed from the truth you can get, because Morridge’s espresso is bottom tier and ranks among the less inviting you can find in the area.
This opinion is based on multiple attempts because, after seeing that sign, I decided to give their espresso one more chance. Perhaps something had changed, I thought. However, it was exactly the same. Very, very, very acidic and barely drinkable. Needless to say, it was the product of a La Marzocco machine.
Nevertheless, their porridge is the most delicious I’ve ever tried and they offer a great selection with many specials. You definitely want to go to Morridge and enjoy some of that, if anything. Just make sure you don’t order an espresso on the side.
